Transparency & member voice
Members deserve to know how their union operates, how decisions are made and how their money is used. They also deserve a meaningful opportunity to shape those decisions.
During the 2024–2026 term, I voted in favour of every transparency motion that came before me. I also submitted several transparency motions myself. Some were defeated. I will continue supporting practical measures that give members better access to information about their union.
An EC Director should not only hear from members at election time. I have stayed active in member social-media groups, shared NEC agendas and minutes, discussed NEC activity and actively asked members for feedback. Accessibility and communication should continue between elections.
Members should be able to understand what their dues are being spent on, what major initiatives cost, the financial implications of resolutions and how significant financial decisions are made. On CAPE’s Finance Committee, I worked to ensure clear costs were attached to member resolutions before members were asked to vote.
A clear commitment for 2027–2029
All members should be able to vote on resolutions, union elections, bargaining-path decisions and collective agreements without having to attend a mandatory meeting simply to unlock their right to vote.
This does not mean eliminating meetings or discussion. It means removing mandatory attendance as a barrier. More accessible participation matters for members with family responsibilities, disabilities, different schedules, geographic constraints and limited time.
Provide clear, useful information before decisions are made.
Keep meetings and discussion open while removing avoidable barriers.
Give all affected members a reasonable opportunity to cast a ballot.
Explain decisions and the use of member resources clearly.
