My record

My work on behalf of members.

A record of the 2024–2026 term

I ran in 2023 on better communication, transparency, greater member involvement and a stronger workplace focus. During the 2024–2026 term, I applied the same practical test: does this directly advance members’ workplace rights and interests?

This is my account of my work. I distinguish the steps I took from collective outcomes and work that remains.

Workforce Adjustment

Keeping job security on the national agenda

I ensured Workforce Adjustment became a standing item on the National Executive Committee agenda, so WFA, workforce reductions and job-security concerns remain regularly before CAPE’s national leadership, not only when a crisis occurs.

Return to Office

Pushing back on blanket rules

During this term, I pushed CAPE to push back against the employer’s Return-to-Office approach. I believe onsite attendance should be based on genuine operational need, with meaningful telework flexibility where that need does not exist.

Transparency

Supporting openness every time

I voted in favour of every transparency motion that came before me and submitted several transparency motions myself. Some were defeated, but the principle remains: members deserve to know how their union operates.

Financial clarity

Knowing the cost before voting

As a member of CAPE’s Finance Committee, I worked to ensure clear financial costs were attached to member resolutions so members could understand the consequences of proposals before voting.

Communication throughout the mandate

An EC Director should not only hear from members at election time. I have stayed active in member social-media groups, shared NEC agendas and minutes, discussed NEC activity and actively asked members for feedback. Accessibility and communication should continue between elections.
